Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared to take a swipe at Donald Trump in a fiery Davos address on Thursday. In a blistering speech delivered at the World Economic Forum in Davos the President of Ukraine took a dig at Trump by saying he "loves who he is" adding that he "will not change".

He says: "Europe looks lost trying to convince the US president to change. But he will not change. President Trump loves who he is, and he says he loves Europe, but he will not listen to this kind of Europe." He continues that some Europeans are "really strong," before adding they "always need someone else to tell them how long they need to stand strong for".

He then proceeded to say that "America is changing is position", adding, "but no one knows exactly how. Things move faster, how can Europe keep up with that?"

He says the challenges we face "are challenges to the European way". As he continued to address world leaders the Ukrainian president accused Europe of looking lost.

“Instead of taking the lead in defending freedom worldwide, especially when America’s focus shifts elsewhere, Europe looks lost trying to convince the US president to change, but he will not change", said President Zelensky.

He also criticised the lack of movement on a ceasefire: "Europe loves to discuss the future but avoids taking action today."

Mr Zelensky met with Mr Trump before his speech at the forum, which he described as "positive" and thanked the US president for "finding time for us". He said: "My team spoke with the American team before my meeting with president Trump.

"My team spend a lot of time with Americans, and even I wanted to ask president Trump to give them American passports because I think that they really spend a lot of time [there].

"I think that the meeting is very important, we need a boat, I hope this is the boat, this is the ship to peace."

This comes after US envoy Steve Witkoff said a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine is 90% done. During Trump's speech at the World Economic Forum, President Trump said that they are "reasonably close" in the peace deal.

He said: "If they don't get this done...they (Russia and Ukraine) are stupid".
