US Secret Service have suddenly evacuated White House reporters and directed them to the briefing room of the building.
CNBC reporter said Megan Cassella said: "U.S. Secret Service just evacuated us from our camera position at the White House north lawn. We’re now gathering in the briefing room. No indication as to what’s going on."
Reports on social media claim gunfire has been heard near the White House, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Secret Service confirm 'officer-involved shooting' near White House
The United States Secret Service has confirmed it is responding to an officer-involved shooting near the White House.
Speaking on its Office of Communications X page, it said:
"U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown. Please avoid the area as emergency crews are responding."

Reporters cleared from the briefing room, according to CNBC
According to CNBC reporter Megan Cassella, journalists have now been cleared out of the briefing room whilst she is back to here original camera spot.
She added:
"No confirmation as of now as to what the threat was. Agents are still out."

One user on X has reported hearing shots on Independence Avenue, as well as posting footage of what appears to be military personell and two girls cowering behind a tree.

Reports of gunshots near White House
Reports are now emerging of gunshots fired close to the White House complex as security measures remain in place.
James Rosen, of Newsmax, said: “BREAKING: Gunshots fired near the White House complex, at 15th and Independence. Secret Service locking down press office and other locations.”
The United States Secret Service has not yet confirmed the reports, but journalists remain under lockdown inside the White House.
