Trump LIVE: Iran 'on the run' as furious President lashes out at 'bully' Tehran

13 hours ago 5

Donald Trump has launched a blistering attack on Iran, claiming the country is "on the run" and "not the bully any longer" as the war in the Middle East continues to escalate.

The US sent a 15-point plan to Iran during the week as part of attempts to end the conflict. However, this was quickly rejected and even mocked by Tehran, who have sent numerous chilling warnings. Mr Trump has continued to insist talks with Iran are progressing well. Speaking at an event in Miami, Florida on Friday night, the US President said: "For 47 years Iran has been known as the bully of the Middle East but they are not the bully any longer - they’re on the run. Tonight, we’re closer than ever to the rise of the Middle East that is finally free at last from Iranian terror, aggression and nuclear blackmail. He added: "I just looked - we had another big day. They are being decimated. We are talking now, they want to make a deal."

Anti-Trump protestors take London

Huge crowds are expected in London for the Together Alliance event - an attempt to stand up against the “politics of division”.

Hundreds of people had turned out by mid-morning on Saturday, with chants of: “Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here”, and “choose love”.

Many protestors carried placards, bearing slogans such as: “Migrants make our NHS”, “No to racism, no to Trump”, and “Refugees welcome, stop the far right”.

Singer Billy Bragg, who has criticised Trump as “a constant reminder of the cruel realities of the politics of division”, is expected to attend.

'White House needs ballroom for King's visit', says Trump

Donald Trump has pointed to the upcoming state visit of the King to highlight the need for a £301 million ballroom at the White House.

The US President argued the development was necessary to entertain a large number of people when hosting foreign dignitaries and world leaders.

The 90,000-square-foot project, which saw the East Wing torn down last October, has been the subject of a legal challenge in a bid to halt construction.

He said: "That’s a big dig. We’re building a ballroom. Every president has said can we have a ballroom please, a room where you could have a lot of people?

"So when the president of China, France, when somebody comes over from the UK, including the King, we have the King coming over very shortly, King Charles, so we can have, like, a large room, because the White House is incredible, but it never had a ballroom."

Trump ‘has no military way out of war'

Andreas Krieg, senior lecturer at the School of Security Studies at King’s College London, said the US President has "no military way out" of the war with Iran.

He told The Independent: "Essentially, the US is offering a deal that Iran might have been able to accept as a foundation for negotiation prior to the war.

"Now that Iran feels it has the upper hand, it would likely ask for more and would be less ready to offer that much.

"Trump has essentially no alternative to a diplomatic settlement. There is no military way out for him. His offer is taken by Iran as surrender."
