A young woman froze to death after slipping off a trail while hiking New York’s highest peak with her dog. Brianna Mohr, 21, reportedly slipped off a trail from the peak with the rescuers taking over six hours to discover her, the officials said on Wednesday.
According to New York state police officials, she dialed 911 while clinging to the side of Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks at 3 pm (EST) Thursday. However, the rescue discovered her after six hours, ar around 9pm (EST), by which she had died of hypothermia, the police said.

According to AccuWeather, temperatures in Keene, New York, where the mountain is located, ranged from -8 to 20 degrees that day.
The police said in a statement: "At approximately 9:00 p.m., Forest Rangers located Brianna L. Mohr, age 21, of Brick, NJ, along with her dog. Mohr was showing no signs of life and was pronounced deceased near the summit of Mount Marcy. The dog was uninjured and rescued.
"New York State Police and the Essex County Coroner’s Office were notified of the incident. An autopsy was scheduled for February 14, 2026, at Glens Falls Hospital and was conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica. The cause of death was determined to be hypothermia."

Mohr’s mother, Stephanie West, posted a photo tribute to her daughter on Valentine’s Day, the day her autopsy was completed.
“I am so lost,” West wrote on Facebook.

On Monday, her brother Ryan shared a heartbreaking message about Mohr, who graduated from Brick Memorial High School in 2022.
According to Asbury Park Press, he wrote: "You were the best friend and sister I could have ever asked for. You are the reason I am the person I am….I love you forever Bri. Rest in peace."
