A beautiful Greek island with stunning beaches has far fewer tourists than its more popular neighbours, Santorini or Corfu. Nestled among the southern tip of the Peloponnese peninsula, this dreamy region sits in dramatic azure waters, providing peace and tranquillity where time seemingly slows down to a gentle Mediterranean pace.
Dubbed Greece’s best-kept secret and a haven for intrepid travellers searching for an authentic Greek experience without the crowds. If Greece is on your radar this year, then Kythira should be your next port of call.

Taking a break from the endless sunbathing and swimming in its warm waters, visitors can explore the island's many hidden coves scattered along its rocky coastlines.
It's not all about secluded beaches and warm sandy beaches here, however. Kythira’s unique landscape also offers mountainous terrains and fertile valleys, making it a walker’s paradise thanks to its many trails.
Kythira boasts several hiking trails, including various walks and treks to religious sites, such as the Victoria trail that winds you along a circular walk through an ancient agricultural landscape.
Along these epic trails, look out for the island’s large presence of hares and small foxes which locals call “zourida” including a host of migratory birds, hedgehogs, small-footed bats and the Mediterranean gecko, among many others.
Other must-visit spots include a visit to the island’s 13th-century Castle of Chora or a meander around its traditional villages, including Potamos and Avlemonas and Potamos.
After a day of exploring, why not sit back and relax at one of the island's many taverns, serving up Greek classic dishes such as honeysuckle, braised goat, egg squid, sponge with koutsounades, green fried tomatoes, or mouth-watering gourd pie?
Of course, you can’t discuss Kythira without mentioning its connection to Greek mythology, as this Greek paradise island is said to be the birthplace of Aphrodite - the goddess of love.
This romantic legacy permeates across the island, from warm and friendly locals to the gentle lapping of its waves on the pebbled shores.
A visit to this Greek dream will undoubtedly leave you breathless, offering an idyllic getaway you’ll remember for years to come.
