Parents typically go to great lengths for their offspring - but in the case of Alexander Nikolayevich Spesivtsev's mother, she pushed her parental devotion to terrifying limits.

During the 1990s in Russia, Alexander transformed the apartment he occupied with his mother, Lyudmila, into a chamber of nightmares.

The jobless young man, aided by his parent, enticed vulnerable homeless youngsters and young women into their home in Novokuznetsk, Siberia.

Wheninside, Alexander subjected his victims to torture before killing them, occasionally consuming portions of their remains.

The disturbing tale commenced following his alcoholic father's desertion of the family, creating an emptiness that would forge an unspeakable connection between the depraved pair.

They shared the same bed until Alexander reached 12 and Lyudmila's fixation with mortality was unmistakable as she regularly subjected her son to disturbing images of deceased individuals from criminal investigation files.

Following his departure from education at 17, Alexander started a relationship with Evgenia Guselnikova, reports the Daily Star.

However, when Evgenia offended Lyudmila, the fury of this unhinged young man exploded. He savagely assaulted her and held her prisoner in their flat for a month, inflicting torment until she died from sepsis.

Following a period in a psychiatric institution, Alexander was released back into the community in 1991. With his mother alongside him, they initiated a murder campaign that would leave local residents horrified.

Such was the marginalised position of their victims in society at the time, the duo's horrific crimes were only uncovered in 1996 when residents summoned plumbers due to a damaged pipe in the building.

It was ultimately established that the issue originated from within the Spesivtsevs' flat.

After getting no response from knocking on the door, the plumbers were compelled to force entry, where they discovered blood on the walls, bowls of human body pieces in the kitchen and a headless mutilated body in the bath.

When the police arrived, they found Olya Galtseva, 15, dying on the couch due to stab wounds in the stomach. She and her two 13-year-old friends had vanished a month earlier.

But authorities had dismissed their parents' appeals to locate them because they believed the girls had absconded with boys to drink and take drugs.

Olya was conscious enough to inform the police, however, that she had gone out to purchase batteries with her friends, where they encountered Lyudmila, who was carrying several shopping bags.

They kindly assisted the woman back to her home, but once inside, they were trapped, never to see the light of day again.
