Shocking moment Angelina Jolie’s guard is collared by Ukrainian soldiers to be marched to frontline while escorting star

THIS is the shocking moment Angelina Jolie’s bodyguard is dramatically pulled aside by a Ukrainian army recruitment officer during the movie star’s visit to the war-torn country.

The Hollywood actress, 50, was touring frontline regions with a British charity when her driver – a military reservist – was stopped at a checkpoint and found to have no legal grounds to avoid conscription.

Reports say the man, who had been assigned to escort Jolie through the Mykolaiv region, was ordered to report for military retraining on the spot.

The Tomb Raider star was left stunned as her companion was taken away, according to local media.

Jolie was visiting bomb-blitzed Kherson and Mikolaiv regions with the Legacy of War Foundation, a charity founded by famed photographer and triple amputee Giles Duley.

During her visit Jolie accused world governments of “turning their backs on protection of civilians”.

Angelina said: “The people of Mykolaiv and Kherson live with danger every day, but they refuse to give in.

“At time when governments around the world are turning their backs on the protection of civilians, their strength, and their support for each other is humbling.”

She added: “After nearly three years of conflict, exhaustion is visible, yet so too is determination. Families want safety, peace, and the chance to rebuild their lives.”

Russian state news agency TASS alleged the star “contacted Volodymyr Zelensky’s office to secure the release of their driver from a local recruitment centre.”

Jolie, who was wearing body armour during her visit, is said to have tried to intervene after her escort was detained.

The incident happened in the southern town of Pivdennoukrainsk, where soldiers discovered the man had no deferment papers.

Despite his pleas that he was driving an “important person”, the officer was still taken to the Territorial Recruitment Centre (TRC) – which handles enlistment for fighters on Ukraine’s frontlines.

A statement from Ukrainian ground forces later confirmed the episode had taken place in Mykolaiv.

“The citizen, as a driver, was part of the group that accompanied the foreign actress Angelina Jolie,” said officials.

“At the time of clarifying all circumstances, this group was nearby.

“When all circumstances were clarified, the famous actress continued on her planned route.

“Neither she nor her representatives influenced the work of military personnel and civil servants of the TRC and the Recruitment Centre, as some posts on the Internet try to suggest.”

Officials stressed Jolie had not interfered in the military’s work – despite viral claims online suggesting otherwise.

The regional recruitment office in Mykolaiv confirmed that the driver was a military reservist and had been summoned for retraining.

It remains unclear whether he was later released or allowed to continue working with the Hollywood star.

Jolie’s team initially declined to comment on the ordeal.

The actress was in Ukraine with the British based Legacy of War Foundation.

In a statement the charity said: “She spent time with medical staff, families and volunteers, who continue their daily lives under the constant presence of drones, the threat of shelling, and landmines that make large areas unsafe to return to.

They added: “She saw how in some parts of the city, netting has been placed above public roads to try to provide a measure of protection against drone attack.”

She has been visiting children living near the frontlines, where communities endure constant bombardment from Putin’s forces.

Some reports suggested the trip had not been pre-approved by Ukrainian authorities.

The outlet MykVisti reported that the detained bodyguard was a reserve officer who lacked a valid medical commission certificate (VLK).

“It is unknown whether the star managed to resolve the situation and whether her bodyguard has been released from the TCC premises,” the site said.

Ukraine has been tightening it’s efforts to stop citizens evading the draft, as fighting in the east intensifies.

The bizarre encounter meant Jolie’s mission – meant to draw attention to the plight of war affected children – briefly turned into a conscription crisis.

But officials say once the confusion was cleared up, the Hollywood star calmly resumed her journey.
