Ukraine caused major damage to Russia's oil and electricity supplies in pinpoint overnight strikes. Among the hits was a large Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, which is key to supplying the capital city of Moscow.

The facility is the fifth largest in Russia, and comes as Ukrainian strikes have triggered a rise in petrol prices and a shortage of supplies.

In other blows to Vladimir Putin, Ukraine triggered water and heating cuts in the Oryol region with strikes on a thermal heating power plant some 160 miles from the border.

“Specialists are repairing the main pipeline of the thermal power plant damaged by the drone crash,” said regional governor Andrei Klychkov.

Local reports suggested that Ukraine had used missiles, not drones, to destroy the plant

In the Vladimir region, a major electricity plant went up in flames as protective covers failed to prevent a strike, which led to mass power cuts.

Russia hit Ukrainian rail infrastructure in the border region of Sumy.

The attacks led to 14 injuries, including four children wounded by Putin’s forces.

Residents reported ten explosions in a few minute,s with ordinary flats struck.

Five apartments and seven balconies caught fire in a nine-story building.

Rescuers pulled a dozen people out of the fire.
