Reagan International Airport's Terminal D has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found.

In statement, the airport said: "Airport police are responding to a suspicious package located in a break room. A safety perimeter was established and passengers were moved out of the D Concourse while the item is being cleared. Please stay tuned to our social channels for updates."

The item was found in Concourse D, which is in Terminal 2 and serves American Airlines.

Passengers evacuated 'as a precaution'

The Airports Authority Police is on the scene investigating, and Concourse D, where the suspicious was found, has been cleared out of precaution.

Passengers were moved from the D Concourse area while airport police established a security perimeter, other local media reports.
