A nightclub had to be evacuated after a suspected pepper spray incident in the dance floor area. Dozens of people were left injured, with eight being taken to hospital for medical treatment, after the incident at a club in Bremervörde, Germany.

The incident happened at approximately 1.15am local time (12.15am GMT) on Wesermünder Straße. Police officers and paramedics swarmed the street following reports a chemical believed to be pepper spray had been sprayed on the dance floor area. Upon their arrival to the nightclub, 999 crews found the location already evacuated, with many guests outside saying they were struggling to breathe or were experiencing irritated eyes and airways.

Police are now investigating the cause as a case of aggravated assault and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
