No, Iranian hackers didn’t leak a video of the FBI's Kash Patel dancing

FBI Director Kash Patel has been the subject of social media buzz this week, after his private emails were hacked by an Iranian-linked group. There's also a viral Bollywood dance video being falsely linked to the incident, despite no connection to Patel, as Vedika Bahl clears up in Truth or Fake.

A video showing a barefoot man dancing to a Bollywood song has gone viral on social media, with users falsely claiming the clip was newly leaked from the email account of FBI chief Kash Patel, after Iranian-linked hackers reportedly breached his personal Gmail inbox.

The footage shows a man dancing enthusiastically to the song “Sun Sahiba Sun” from the 1985 film Ram Teri Ganga Maili, appearing to imitate choreography from the original film sequence.

But the claim is misleading: the video is unrelated to Patel and has been circulating online since at least 2020. Local media in India previously described it as a dance celebrating his wife’s departure to visit her parents, not material from any email leak.

The recent hacking of Patel’s personal inbox was claimed by the Handala Hack team, and confirmed by the FBI. The group presents itself as a pro-Palestinian vigilante collective, but Western officials and cybersecurity experts consider it part of a broader ecosystem linked to Iranian cyber-intelligence activity.

Vedika Bahl clears up the viral confusion, and gives more context to the recent hacking in this episode of Truth or Fake.
