A major international airport reportedly stopped its service on Monday, March 23, following a reported fire. New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport halted operations this morning after reports emerged of a blaze near the Air Traffic Control tower.

This comes after the closure of LaGuardia airport following a horror collision between an Air Canada plane and a vehicle on the ground.

Flights 'temporarily suspended'

Bloomberg reported all flights have been 'temporarily suspended' after the fire.

Fire at Newark follows closure of another airport

This comes after the closure of LaGuardia airport following a horror collision between an Air Canada plane and a vehicle on the ground.

Ground stop expected to remain in place

The ground stop will remain in effect until at least 8:30am local time.

Airport is one of the busiest in the US

The site is known to be one of the busiest, largest airport systems in the US, serving the New York City metropolitan area and tens of millions of passengers each year.

Ground stop in place and reports of smoke

A ground stop is currently in place at Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey, after reports of smoke led to the evacuation of the air traffic control tower, according to the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).

All flights have been cancelled at the airport.
