Shamsud Din Jabbar
, the 42-year-old suspect behind the deadly attack in New Orleans, was identified as an employee of the top accounting firm Deloitte. According to reports from The New York Times, Jabbar worked at the firm and earned around $120,000 annually.
However, despite his stable job, Jabbar faced major
financial struggles
, particularly during his second divorce in 2022. He admitted in emails that he owed over $27,000 in overdue home payments and was at risk of foreclosure, which added to his stress at the time.
Jabbar’s life took a tragic turn when, hours after the attack, authorities identified him as the driver of the truck that mowed down and killed ten people on New Year’s Day. The FBI revealed that Jabbar’s truck displayed an ISIS flag during the incident, and there were reports of him opening fire on police officers following the attack, leading to a brief shootout in which he was killed.
Investigators are now looking into whether Jabbar acted alone or if he had assistance from someone else.
The FBI has urged the public to come forward if they have any information about Jabbar or his associates, particularly anyone who may have had recent interactions with him. Jabbar, a
Texas native
, had served in the US army and was honourably discharged after completing his service.
The truck involved in the deadly attack had a black flag displayed on the back. According to Fox News, the vehicle was tracked crossing the southern border into the United States at Eagle Pass, Texas, two days before the incident.
