The richest actor on the planet is worth a staggering $3 billion (or £2.5 billion), worth more than the likes of Brad Pitt and George Clooney combined.

However, only a small fraction of that wealth comes from films or TV.

Jami Gertz, American actress-turned-entrepreneur, is the richest actor in the world - male or female.

Gertz got her big break as a child and has since appeared in some 28 movies and 174 episodes of TV throughout her career.

Over the years, the 59-year-old is best known for roles in Twister, The Lost Boys, Still Standing, and Sixteen Candles, as well as leading the cast of the sitcom The Neighbors, centering around a family who move to an estate full of extraterrestrial beings.

Gertz was said to be worth a whopping £2.5 billion as of 2023 - also beating the likes Margot Robbie, Robert De Niro, and Jennifer Lopez.

Yet it is her business endeavours away from Hollywood that have contributed most to her financial success.

Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1965, she has three sons with her husband Tony Ressler, whom she married in 1989.

For all of her film and TV roles combined, Gertz would have made a minimum of $1,183,020 (£952,070).

However, these calculations do not take into account royalty payments, commission or inflation, so the total number is likely to be even larger.

But even then, this figure is just 0.039 percent of her total net worth today.

Gertz and Ressler, a businessman, have used their wealth to invest in sports teams and are part owners of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. They're also minority owners of the baseball team Milwaukee Beavers.

Ressler himself has a net worth of £8.5 billion, according to Forbes, largely thanks to his two finance firms, Apollo Global Management and Ares Management.

Gertz has also donated a huge portion of her wealth to charity. She and Ressler are both huge philanthropists, donating huge amounts of cash through their charitable organisation, The Ressler-Gertz Foundation - giving primarily for an arts museum, education, Jewish organizations and temples and health and human services.
