Iran has issued a chilling warning to war-torn Ukraine, claiming the country has now become a "legitimate target" of the regime's strikes. Volodymyr Zelensky previously claimed the US had sought his country's help to defend Gulf countries from the retaliatory drone strikes being launched by Iran in light of Operation Epic Fury.

Mr Zelensky said on March 6 he had given instructions "to provide the necessary means and ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can guarantee the necessary security". This move has seemingly sparked the rage of Iran, with the head of the regime's parliamentary National Security Commission, Ebrahim Azizi, claiming Ukraine is now a fair target.

Mr Azizi wrote on X: "By providing drone support to the Israeli regime, failed Ukraine has effectively become involved in the War and, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, has turned its entire territory into a legitimate target for Iran."

No report has suggested Ukraine has provided specific support for Ukraine. Discussing the support provided, Mr Zelensky told the New York Times that Kyiv had deployed interceptor drones and a team of drone specialists to help protect US military bases in Jordan.

Following the beginning of the unlawful Russian war in Ukraine in February 2022, the war-torn country have created closer ties with the UK, among other European countries which have been supporting its efforts against Vladimir Putin's invading troops.

The Russian invasion has also seen Ukraine become an expert in drone shields, with Russia having fired more than 57,000 Shahed drones at its neighbour, according to the Ukraine Foreign Ministry.

Asked about the Ukrainian offer last week, Donald Trump said: "I'll take any assistance from any country."

However, in an interview with Fox News on Friday, the US President said: “We don't need their help in drone defense. We know more about drones than anybody. We have the best drones in the world, actually.”

Iran, one of the closest allies of Russia since the invasion, is widely believed to have provided Moscow with Shahed drones.
