Hotel staff make horror discovery after guest checks out

Hotel staff were stunned when they discovered what a guest had left in their room after staying there for two years. A video clip shows what staff were met with when they entered the room, with mountains of rubbish making parts of the room completely hidden. The guest stayed at an esports hotel specialising in offering private gaming facilities, located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province in northeastern China.

The guest checked out on December 12 after two years of uninterrupted play. The video shows mountains of takeaway containers and food wrappers, while piles of used toilet paper are stacked high in the small bathroom. Rubbish in the bedroom is stacked nearly three and a half feet high, while two gaming chairs and a table appear almost completely buried in the rubbish. In the bathroom, grime and dirt suggest that this mess had been building up for quite some time.

Staff at the hotel said that the man was rarely seen outside of his room during his stay. Some workers said they didn't even know what he looked like.

Esports hotels offer rooms kitted out with top-quality gaming equipment, high-speed internet and dedicated gaming chairs. It is believed the man checked into the room for an extended gaming session.

It took cleaning teams three days to clear the rubbish and clean the room following their discovery. However, the room has sustained visible damage and will need renovation work before it can be offered to future guests.

The guest checked out suddenly after a two-year stay, but it is unclear as to why. Staff said he still owes more than 10 days of unpaid fees totalling around CNY 2,700 (about £297).

It is suspected that he could have run into financial troubles before the end of his stay, prompting him to leave. Hotel bosses said they have not reported the incident to the police.

They do not currently plan to pursue responsibility, adding they cannot disclose the guest's details due to privacy rules.
