A woman was reportedly raped by seven men in front of her boyfriend in a horrifying attack. The 28-year-old victim was also allegedly forced to transfer around £80 to one of the attackers.

The woman was reportedly out with her boyfriend near Silchar, in the Assam Cachar district of India, when she was attacked by the gang on Thursday, February 19. Her family said the couple were travelling in a car when a group of men appeared in an SUV and stopped them.

As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, the family member said: "They first asked the couple about their whereabouts and then suddenly grabbed the woman and her friend. There were around seven men, and they raped her one by one in front of her boyfriend."

The woman was then reportedly forced to transfer one of the attackers Rs 10,000 (£81.38). It has since been confirmed that two of the suspects have been arrested while local police continue to track down the others.

Sushmita Dev, the local MP, has urged authorities to bring the suspects to justice. She has also asked the police for an update on their ongoing investigation.

She said: "I have met SP Cachar District for an update on action taken There should be no attempt to cover up this case. @AITC4Assam will not tolerate it. Medical report awaited I am told."

It's also reported in the Deccan Chronicle that a local journalist was attacked by family members of one of the suspects. He claimed he was stopped by them near the National Highway Road police station before they beat him up.

The family members allegedly asked why he reported the incident in the local news. The journalist reported the attack and one person has since been arrested.

A senior police officer has advised people not to spread misinformation on social media. The force are continuing to appeal to the public for relevant information.
