The bodies of a husband and wife have been found beheaded and wrapped in a carpet in Malaysia. Police in the southeast Asian country said the man, 65, and woman, 53, were discovered in the kitchen of a house in Kampung Belau, Merbok.
Local police chief, Hanyan Ramlan, said the body of the couple's son, 29, was found in a bedroom with slash wounds to his neck, Malaysian news outlet Harian Metro reports. The same publication said a number of sharp weapons were found near his body.
The victims have been named by local media as Zikri Abdul Rahman, his wife Suraya Man and their son, Muhammad Shakir Zufayri Abdul Aziz.
Hanyan Ramlan is reported as saying members of the public alerted the police after not seeing the couple for three days.
He said they had also reported a "foul smell" coming from the area and when officers forced their way in they found the husband and wife.
Based on the condition of the bodies, officials believe the couple had been dead for over two days.
While their bodies were said to be swollen and decomposing, it looked as if the son had died later.
The son is believed to have had a history of mental health "issues", according to the news outlet Free Malaysia Today, citing investigators.
