A 12-year-old girl gave birth after being raped by her brother in their shared bedroom. The 16-year-old attacker has avoided jail after his sister discovered she was pregnant after being admitted to hospital with extreme pain.

The boy has been handed a three-year suspended sentence for raping his sister at their home in 2024. After being taken to hospital, the girl was told she was in labour and gave birth shortly after. She then accused her brother of raping her before a paternity test confirmed the teenager was the father of the child. The baby boy has since been placed into foster care.

A court in the Czech Republic heard how the boy started sexually abusing his sister at their parents' home when he was 15. They lived in the Karlovy Vary region in the west of the country.

The girl was raped at the end of 2024 but remained quiet. When her stomach grew larger, her family assumed she had just gained weight.

She then complained of severe pain and was rushed to hospital last summer before giving birth. Local authorities said the situation was a "real catastrophe" for the family and was "immediately the talk of the town".

The attacker appeared in court on Friday (June 12) and avoided a jail term. He was given a three-year suspended sentence, ordered to do sex offender therapy, and ordered to pay the victim more than £10,000.

Authorities in the Czech Republic said: "It was a real catastrophe for the family. They had a very hard time coping with it. Of course, it was immediately the talk of the town."

The Karlovy Vary region, with a population of around 293,000, is known for its historic spa towns. Its capital, Karlovy Vary, is famous for its hot mineral springs, thermal treatments and colonades.
