Health fears surrounding Donald Trump are once again beginning to swirl after a top doctor said he believes the president must be showing signs of “cognitive decline”. Towards the end of last year, Trump took to Truth Social to proudly announce he had “aced” his third cognitive test.

The first time the President took the MoCa assessment, a survey assessing domains like memory, attention, language, executive function, and visuospatial skills, was in 2018, where he scored 30 out of 30. The 79-year-old once again took the exam in April 2025, scoring 30, and then retook it in October 2025. Although Trump and his doctors insist the President passed the exams with flying colours, a top doctor says the issue is the number of times Trump has had to take the assessment.

Dr Gartner believes Trump is being 'monitored for dementia' (Image: Getty)

Talking to the Daily Beast’s Joanna Coles, Dr. John Gartner said there are “two issues” to be concerned about, one that he has taken the MoCa so often and the other that he has taken other cognitive tests in addition to the MoCa”.

“No one takes the MoCa repeatedly unless they’re being monitored for dementia”, said Dr Gartner.

He believes that Trump has highlighted his doctors believe he is showing “signs of cognitive decline”.

Dr Gartner said: “It might be used as a general screening for an older person if you are doing a very thorough physical examination.

“But you wouldn’t be going through it six months later unless you had perceived there was a problem and you needed to keep monitoring it, see if it's getting worse and keep an eye on it.

“So the fact that he announced that he had taken the MoCa six months after again, is essentially revealing that his doctors believe that he is showing signs of cognitive decline that require medical monitoring.

“The other issue is he said he took a series of tests, plural.”

He added:"There's no one there who can really corrall him...he really could almost do anything, first of all, he has no moral compunctions about anything he would do.

"But given he is also so cognitively confused, he can also do something that just doesn't even make any sense.

"You don't need to be a professional to see this man is deteriorating mentally and physically."

The president has constantly and passionately denied any claims that he is in anything but tip-top shape, even releasing the results of a medical exam and MRI test, claiming he had “as good a result as they’ve ever seen.”

After a New York Times article looking into his health, Trump posted a furious reply online: “After all of the work I have done with Medical Exams, Cognitive Exams, and everything else, I actually believe it’s seditious, perhaps even treasonous, for The New York Times, and others, to consistently do FAKE reports in order to libel and demean ‘THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.”
