Ana and Daniel Parra, who met on Facebook and fell in love, are campaigning to change Spanish law so they can legally marry despite being half-siblings with two children together

Ana Parra was 20 when she first met her estranged half brother, Daniel Parra – but the chemistry was immediate.

Now the Spanish pair, who have had two children together, are campaigning to reform the law so they can legally marry.

Ana had always been aware she had a half brother somewhere. During her childhood, she knew her father had left her to start a relationship with another woman, with whom he had children.

One of those children was Daniel, who said: "Someone had told me that maybe I had a sister out there, but my father never told me, it was something he wanted to hide."

Ana, eager to meet her sibling, found Daniel on Facebook and suggested that they meet. They say it was love at first sight, reports the Mirror.

"We didn't want to realise it," explained Ana, "we were angry with ourselves because it was hard to admit and break that taboo - we are siblings even though we didn't feel that way."

Their first kiss happened at a party. "We were partying, we approached each other slowly and gave each other our first kiss."

Ana recalled feeling "ashamed" of what happened, but Daniel described the moment as transformative: "That kiss broke all barriers, marked a before and after, it was like a reality check."

Several days later, they planned to see each other again, but were hesitant to acknowledge the romantic feelings.

Daniel said: "Imagine liking a girl and, for a moral reason, being forbidden to be with her. It's really hard to deal with."

It was only following a trip to London, where the couple felt they could behave as a pair without judgement, that they chose to reveal their relationship.

Ana said: "That was the first time we can say that we behaved, in public, like a real couple. We went out to dinner, we took walks. It was like an explosion of freedom."

Incredibly, the couple opted to make their debut together on television, with Anna explaining: "We didn't feel like telling everyone our story one by one, so that's why we decided to tell it this way."

However, they were met with a barrage of online vitriol over their incestuous liaison. "There are people who have written to us on social media telling us that we're going to burn in hell," Ana revealed.

This did not dissuade the sibling-lovers, who now have two children. Both, they assert, are "perfectly healthy", despite the increased risk of a recessive disease given the parents' genetic relation.

In Spain, consensual incest is legal. However, the Spanish Civil Code prohibits marriage between relatives.

Daniel and Ana aim to alter this and hope that they will be able to wed someday.

"Societies must advance and not cling to traditionalism," Ana asserted. "Homosexuals were also not allowed to marry and now they can.

"We love each other and that is what should prevail. We are not harming anyone. That is why we want people to know our story."
