Ghislaine Maxwell makes 'Alice in Wonderland' admission in new prison

Ghislaine Maxwell says she is "much happier" in the minimum-security Texas prison she was moved to after meeting with top officials from the US Department of Justice (DoJ) in July. The Jeffrey Epstein associate is serving a 20 year sentence for sex trafficking, at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Bryan, Texas, after previously being locked up in Tallahassee, Florida. Maxwell, 63, said she was "much happier" and felt "safe" at the facility in new emails obtained by NBC News after outcry over her "VIP treatment" compared to other inmates.

"I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderland's looking glass," she wrote. "I am much, much happier here and more importantly, safe ... The institution is run in an orderly fashion which makes for a safer, more comfortable environment for all people concerned, inmates and guards alike." The emails were released by the House Judiciary Committee after concerns were raised about Maxwell's "unusually favourable treatment" which reports suggest had angered other prisoners.

The Wall Street Journal suggested last month that Maxwell's arrival in Texas, weeks after she told the DoJ that she had never seen President Donald Trump do anything inappropriate or illegal during his friendship with Epstein, "upset the camp's usually relaxed atmosphere".

Citing special treatment she received, the newspaper relayed "resentment from other inmates".

Democrat congressman Jamie Raskin repeated the allegations in a letter to Camp Bryan, demanding clarity on whether Maxwell was "receiving VIP treatment" including "private meetings with mysterious visitors, meal delivery to her dormitory and other special perks".

In the emails published by NBC, Maxwell compared her living situation to Federal Correctional Institution, Tallahassee, where she had previously been incarcerated, describing the food in Texas as "legions better" and the staff as "responsive and polite".

"I haven't seen or heard the usual foul language or screaming accompanied by threats levelled at inmates or anyone," she wrote to loved ones. "I have not seen a single fight, drug deal, passed out person or naked inmate running around or several of them congregating in a shower!"

Her fellow inmates at Camp Bryan include disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and reality TV star Jen Shah, and the facility is considered a relatively relaxed insitution with dormitory housing and limited perimeter fencing.

Following her meetings with US officials, speculation has also been rife as to whether Mr Trump will grant her a full pardon, although the White House previously insisted that "no leniency is being given or discussed".
