Health Officials Race To Contain Deadly Ebola Outbreak In Congo

France has confirmed its first case of Ebola after a doctor returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive. The French Health Ministry reported that the doctor had recently returned from a humanitarian mission. The patient has been placed in isolation, and authorities are conducting contact tracing.

The ministry also emphasised that the risk to the wider European population remains low. Congo's Ebola outbreak, which has infected more than 1,000 people and killed 267, has had the largest number of confirmed cases within the first month of any episode of the disease, the World Health Organisation has said.
