Two people have died and 36 have been injured after a bus full of tourists careered into a truck near a popular Egyptian beach resort. Authorities confirmed they received reports of a Red Sea tourism company bus, which is thought to have been carrying 24 foreign nationals, colliding with a heavy truck in the early hours of the morning near Hurghada, reports the Mirror.

Several ambulances rushed to the scene on Ras Gharib-Hurghada road along Egypt’s Red Sea coast early this morning, and the injured were taken to surrounding hospitals. The driver of the coach and another person who has not been identified have been confirmed dead. The nationalities have not been disclosed at this stage.

The coach had been heading north from Hurghada, one of the most popular beach resorts along Egypt's Red Sea coast, although it has not yet been confirmed where the coach was heading.

The city is about 290 miles south of the capital, Cairo, and it would take around five hours to drive between the two locations, or approximately three hours to travel to the Pyramids of Giza, which is a frequent route for travel companies.

Hurghada has grown from what was once a small fishing town to one of the largest resort destinations along Egypt's Red Sea coast, and its huge stretch of sandy beach is lined with resort hotels.

At least two people died in a separate recent incident in Egypt, after two passenger trains crashed in the Nile Delta. Around 30 others were injured.
