Shocking scene circulating on social media appear to show people at Dubai International Airport injured and walking quickly to safety. The footage circulating on X comes amid reports the airport has been struck by a drone attack, as Iran has been launching a series of retaliatory attack against several targets in the Middle East - including a hotel in Dubai - following the US and Israel's Operation Epic Fury. It is not clear whether Iran launched an attack against the airport in Dubai. Dubai Airports have confirmed "an incident" happened at the air hub, addinb multiple people had been injured.
In the early hours of Saturday, the US and Israel launched strikes on Iranian targets - reportedly including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's compound. Tonight, Mr Trump claimed the Iranian leader, who hasn't been seen today, has died in the strikes. Iran has so far denied Khamenei is dead.
UAE's announces plan to minimise travel disruption
The General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE has launched plans to contain the fallout from the strikes in the region, which have prompted many airlines to suspend their operations.
The strikes also resulted in Dubai Airport being hit.
The authority said the country's airports and national carriers are working together with measures including rerouting some flights between airports, accelerating rescheduling processes, and enhancing field coordination within passenger terminals to address potential congestion.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE acknowledged "shrapnel" falling in areas of the country and hitting a number of civilian properties following the alleged Iranian attacks.
The statement read: "The ministry indicated that, as a result of the effective interception of missiles and drones, some shrapnel fell in various areas of the country, causing minor material damage to a number of civilian properties.
"The ministry confirmed that the relevant authorities immediately mobilized with full readiness and resources to deal with the situation according to the procedures approved for such cases, and that the necessary measures were taken to ensure the safety of residents and secure the affected sites."
UAE claims hundreds of Iranian drones launched against the country
The UAE's Ministry of Defence also claimed in a statement that Iran has so far launched over 200 drones against the country.
It read: "The ministry explained that since the start of the attack, 137 Iranian ballistic missiles were detected being launched towards the country, 132 of which were destroyed, while 5 fell into the sea. 209 Iranian drones were also detected, 195 of which were intercepted, while 14 fell within the country's territory and waters, causing some collateral damage."
The UAE has issued an update on the ongoing situation in the country, which has reportedly been targeted by Iranian strikes following the beginning of Donald Trump's Operation Epic Fury.
A statement released tonight read: "The Ministry of Defense announced that the UAE Air Force and Air Defense has successfully dealt with and destroyed 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones launched towards the country's territory since the start of the Iranian attack, confirming the high readiness of the air defense systems and their ability to deal with various threats."
Dubai Airports has confirmed an incident at Dubai International Airport.
A statement shared on X by the organisation read: "Dubai Airports has confirmed an incident at Dubai International Airport (DXB) just moments ago. Emergency response teams have been activated immediately, and the incident is being handled in coordination with the relevant authorities. This has resulted in 4 injuries, and the necessary urgent medical assistance has been provided to them. Updated information will be broadcast as soon as it is received."
