Toronto police say officers and firefighters responded to reports of a rooftop fire at a building under construction near Richmond Street West and John Street just after 6pm Friday.
Police said items were possibly exploding and debris may have been falling onto the street below, prompting road closures and pedestrian restrictions in the area.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, while local media footage showed thick smoke and flames rising from the rooftop.
