Amazing footage shows a beach turning blood red as heavy rain falls. The torrential downpour lit up the Silver and Red Beach on Hormuz Island in Iran as tourists gathered to take a look.

The footage was shared on the Instagram account hormoz_omid and has currently amassed 29 million likes and 8,000 comments. The post is captioned: "Heavy rain today, red beach. Today, the red beach was at its peak with the presence of tourists." It shows floodwater running off the rocks as the shoreline turns red.

The phenomenon is caused by Iran's mineral-rich coastline. The volcanic soil's high iron oxide content mixes with seawater to change the beach's colour and produce vivid red waves.

In Iran, the rich soil is used in industry and as a spice in the local cuisine. According to the Iran Tourism and Touring Organisation, it is also used in sauces and jams, dyeing, cosmetics, and glass.

Several people commented on the Instagram post to express their amazement at the sight. One user wrote: "Here is an incredibly beautiful island on Iran."
