New York mayor Zohran Mamdani was roasted on social media after he issued a statement on the US capturing Nicolas Maduro from Fuerte Tiuna military base in Venezuela, as social media users reminded him that he is only the mayor of New York City.
Mamdani also claimed he spoke to President Trump and registered his opposition to the arrest of Maduro. MAGA activists mockingly explained that this is the reason why Trump chose to dangle Maduro in New York in front of Mamdani. "I was briefed this morning on the US military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City. Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law.
This blatant pursuit of regime change doesn’t just affect those abroad, it directly impacts New Yorkers, including tens of thousands of Venezuelans who call this city home.
My focus is their safety and the safety of every New Yorker, and my administration will continue to monitor the situation and issue relevant guidance," Mamdani said in a statement.
'I registered my opposition'
When Mamdani said he called Trump and spoke with him directly to register his opposition to such a regime change, the NYC mayor was asked what Trump's response was.
"I registered my opposition. I made it clear. We left it at that," Mamdani said. "Dear Zohran, You seem to have forgotten, but you aren’t a world leader or Secretary of State! You’re a city mayor. Nobody is briefing you on international military policy. Your job is local parks and garbage collection. Get a grip. Get your ego in check. Hope this helps!" columnist Samantha Smith wrote."Zohran Mamdani has been mayor for 72 hours and already thinks he runs US foreign policy. Calling President Trump regarding Maduro is laughable. You’re the mayor of NYC, not Secretary of State. The ego is unmatched," sports broadcaster Emily Austin wrote."Comrade Mamdani is sad that Maduro is out of power," Republican senator Ted Cruz wrote.
