An explosion caused by an unidentified object has rocked a small village in eastern Poland. The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning near Osiny village in Wola Mysłowska commune. Local media is now reporting that the object was likely a Russia Shahed loitering drone - the type often used to bombard Ukrainian cities.

The settlement is situated 126 kilometres (78 miles) from the Belarus border town of Brest. The suspected drone came down in a corn field near the village, creating a large crater. According to local reports, the explosion also blew out windows in nearby houses. Local police and firefighters have been dispatched to the site and are carrying out investigations, a spokesman said.

Polish military experts were also sent to the scene to help with investigations, as Polish Defense Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz said "acts of sabotage" should not be ruled out.

Staff Sergeant Marcin Józwik of Łuków police later told the media outlet PAP: "In a corn field, we found burnt objects of various sizes , scattered within a radius of several dozen metres.

"These are burnt metal and plastic fragments." He added that among the debris discovered was an object that looked like a propeller.

CCTV footage shows the moment the explosion happened. A bright flash can be seen, followed by the sound of a loud bang.

One witness told the local Łuków TV station: "I was woken by a loud bang that shook the windows. I looked outside but couldn't see anything. It wasn't until the morning that I noticed the lights of police cars."

Initially, reports suggested the unidentified object had come from Belarus. However, authorities have since refuted the claim.

"In reference to the information about the discovery of object remains in the Łuków County area, we inform you that after conducting preliminary analyses of radar system records, no violation of Polish airspace was recorded last night from either Ukraine or Belarus," they wrote.

They said the debris from the explosion had been sent on to the Air Operations Centre for further analysis.

"Relevant services, including soldiers from the Military Police, are working at the scene, conducting a detailed analysis of the object," they added.

"Air and Ground Search and Rescue Teams have been activated to inspect the incident area.

"The personnel of the Polish air defence system conduct round-the-clock monitoring of Polish airspace, remaining in constant readiness to ensure its security."
