Who profits off Iran war? Strait of Hormuz toll talk fuels outrage

2 hours ago 4

A most confusing Wednesday it was. In the space of six minutes during the same press conference, the White House spokesperson first hailed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz then called on Iran to immediately reopen the planet’s most oil sensitive shipping lane. Five weeks of contradictory statements begeting broader confusion over the actual contents of the ceasefire deal and who's even involved.

Confusion can move markets and in a war that's sparked the planet’s biggest energy crisis in decades, the price of oil which had plummeted Wednesday now back above 100 dollars a barrel. And amidst the volatility, there are always those that smell a chance to make a quick buck. We’ll ask who’s profiting how, whether it's simply smart investing, or with so much power now in the hands of a single man, we’ll ask whether scrutiny's warranted inside of Donald Trump's cabinet about accusations of the blurring of lines between national interest and personal profit. If it’s oil producers like Saudi Arabia and Russia doing it – that’s one thing, but what about if it’s the United States of America?
