White House shares major Donald Trump health update as 'hand discoloration' prompts fears

Donald Trump’s doctor has issued a major health update for the US President just one day after he was pictured with makeup covering his bruised hand. Mr Trump completed his second medical examination of the year - which the White House described as routine - amid speculation about his seemingly discoloured hands and swollen ankles. Despite growing concern over his health, his doctor, Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, said in a letter: “President Trump continues to demonstrate excellent overall health.”

The document, released by the White House, reads: “His cardiac age - a validated measure of cardiovascular vitality via ECG -was found to be approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age. He continues to maintain a demanding daily schedule without restriction.” The update follows new photos of the US President on Friday (October 10) which appears to show Mr Trump covering a patch of skin with heavy makeup.

This was spotted on the 79-year-old's right hand during a press conference in the Oval Office during which he announced a deal with drug maker AstraZeneca to lower drug prices.

Earlier this year, the White House announced that Mr Trump had been diagnosed with a vein condition - chronic venous insufficiency which is common in older adults - following speculation over his health.

The bruising on his hand was linked to the aspirin the president takes as part of a health programme.

Ahead of Mr Trump’s flight to the Middle East on Sunday (October 12), he underwent a "semiannual physical" examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.

The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, described it as a “routine yearly checkup”.

"I’m meeting with the troops, and I’m also going to do a, sort of, semiannual physical, which I do,” Mr Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday. “I think I’m in great shape, but I’ll let you know.”

The check-up on Friday included routine testing, a Covid vaccine booster and an annual flu jab.

The letter also said the president underwent advanced imaging, lab testing and preventive health assessments.

In a separate memo released on Friday night, Mr Barbabella said: “President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological and physical performance.”
