What to Know About the Miami Plane Crash That Killed 5 People

At least five people were killed and five others were injured after an Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway upon landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon.Miami-Dade County officials said in an evening press conference that 21 Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 freighter operating on behalf of Amazon, crashed into several vehicles shortly before 2 p.m.The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration said they are investigating the incident."The airplane, which was operated by 21 Air, was attempting to land when this incident occurred,” Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a statement. “We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to learn more and will cooperate fully with any investigation.”Nantel said the company’s “deepest sympathies go out to the families, loved ones, and all those affected by this devastating loss.” Amazon contracts out its cargo flights.The incident has impacted operations in “America’s busiest airport for international freight and second busiest for international passengers,” according to the Miami airport’s website.Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy posted on social media that travelers sh...
