The teens were attending golf team tryouts when they spotted the family in distress and acted immediately.According to police, Andrew Tuggle, 15, Jackson Castro, 17, and Gavin Cain, 17, all students at Eastern View High School, saw the overturned kayaks near the Lake Culpeper Dam water intake area and did not waste a second. They called 911, alerted their coaches and then jumped into the water to help.A fast rescue in rough conditionsThe rescue happened around 3:30 p.m. on July 27 between December Court and the intake area of the Lake Culpeper Dam. Police said the shoreline made the situation even more difficult, with a steep, overgrown hillside and a boulder-covered edge that made access to the water challenging.Even so, the three teens ran through thorny brush, swam out to the family and helped bring two adults and a 3-year-old boy safely back to shore.
