at Abundant Life Christian
School
on Monday morning left four dead and at least five
injured
. The suspect, identified as a juvenile believed to be a student, was found dead inside the school.
Police responded to reports of an active shooter at 10.57 am (10.27 pm IST), according to the New York Times. Police chief Shon F Barnes confirmed officers did not fire their weapons. He stated the injured suffered injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening. Barnes called the incident a 'sad, sad day' for Madison and the entire country.
The school, which serves approximately 390 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, shares a campus with a church and an early childhood education center.
Wisconsin
governor Tony Evers released a statement saying, “We are praying for the kids, educators and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation, and White House officials are in contact with local authorities.
