Iran War News: Israeli military urges 50 villages in Lebanon to evacuate ahead of possible strikes
The Israeli military on Monday urged people in nearly 50 villages in Lebanon to evacuate ahead of possible retaliatory strikes after Hezbollah fired into Israel. The Hezbollah attack came in response to the U.S.-Israeli air campaign that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israeli military urged civilians in eastern and southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes and move at least 1,000 meters (1,100 yards) away from villages to open areas.
Israel attack Iran: Lebanon PM calls rocket fire on Israel ‘irresponsible and suspicious’
Lebanon’s Prime Minister has described the latest rocket fire on Israel as “irresponsible and suspicious”, after tensions flared sharply along the border.
Israel launched a barrage of air strikes on Beirut early on Monday following missile attacks claimed by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. It was the first time in more than a year that Hezbollah had publicly acknowledged carrying out a strike against Israel.
The Israeli military said it intercepted one projectile that crossed into its territory, while several others landed in open areas. Officials reported no injuries or significant damage as a result of the attack.
In a statement, Hezbollah said it had fired missiles in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and in response to what it called “repeated Israeli aggressions”.
Israel Iran War News: Trump vows revenge as US-Iran war widens across Middle East
President Donald Trump has vowed to avenge the deaths of three US service members killed during operations against Iran, as the conflict rapidly expands across the Middle East. The Pentagon confirmed the fatalities during Operation Epic Fury, described by Trump as “one of the most complex, most overwhelming military offensives the world has ever seen”.
In a video address, Trump warned that further American casualties were likely, saying: “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends.” He promised that “America will avenge their deaths” and deliver “the most punishing blow” to those responsible. The US president also called on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and military to surrender, urging them to “lay down your arms and receive full immunity or face certain death”.
The conflict intensified after joint US-Israeli strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian retaliation has included missile and drone attacks across Israel and Gulf states hosting US forces. As explosions were reported in multiple countries, fears grew of a prolonged regional war with global consequences.
US, Israel attack Iran: Israel and US strike Tehran as Iran retaliates across region
The Israeli military confirmed it launched “large-scale strikes” on Tehran as part of a joint campaign with the United States targeting Iranian military infrastructure. The Israeli Air Force said it had begun “an additional wave of strikes against the Iranian terror regime at the heart of Tehran”.
US Central Command announced it had destroyed the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), declaring: “America has the most powerful military on earth, and the IRGC no longer has a headquarters.” Israel said it struck dozens of command centres, including IRGC facilities, intelligence headquarters and air force command posts.
Iranian state media reported that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in one of the first strikes, alongside members of his family. Tehran has since formed an interim governing council. Iranian officials have vowed retaliation, calling the killing a “declaration of war”.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states, killing civilians and striking key infrastructure. The escalating exchanges have heightened fears of a wider regional confrontation.
Iran War News: Gulf states condemn Iran as strikes hit civilian sites
Gulf states have condemned Iran’s retaliatory strikes, describing them as reckless and destabilising. In a joint statement, the US State Department and Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates said: “The targeting of civilians and of countries not engaged in hostilities is reckless and destabilizing behavior.”
The UAE summoned Iran’s ambassador and delivered a formal protest, condemning what it described as “terrorist attacks and assaults”. Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar rejected any justification for strikes targeting residential areas, airports and ports, calling them a violation of sovereignty and international law.
The Gulf Cooperation Council convened via video-link and vowed to defend member states, including by “responding to the aggression” if necessary. Iran’s retaliatory attacks reportedly killed civilians in the UAE and injured others across the region.
As tensions mount, Gulf nations have warned that continued escalation could have serious political and economic repercussions across the Middle East.
Israel attack Iran: Oil prices surge as Strait of Hormuz tensions disrupt markets
Global oil prices surged sharply after the US and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks raised fears of supply disruption. Brent crude rose to around $79 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate climbed to about $72, both up roughly 8% from Friday’s trading levels.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil passes, has become a focal point of concern. Iran previously declared the strategic waterway closed, and maritime agencies reported attacks on vessels in the area. Shipping companies suspended transit through the Suez Canal and the strait amid safety fears.
Energy analysts warned that prolonged disruption could lead to higher fuel and consumer prices globally. Although OPEC+ members announced plans to boost production, experts cautioned that additional output may offer limited relief if export routes remain threatened.
With oil markets reacting swiftly to the widening conflict, concerns are growing about the broader economic fallout of a sustained Middle East war.
Israel Iran War News: EU warns of prolonged war as UK backs defensive strikes
The European Union has warned that the Middle East “stands to lose greatly from any drawn-out war”, urging restraint amid escalating hostilities. Speaking after an emergency meeting of foreign ministers, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas cautioned that further escalation could threaten “the Middle East, Europe and beyond, with unpredictable consequences”.
The EU confirmed it would reinforce its Red Sea naval mission, with two additional French vessels joining Operation Aspides to safeguard maritime traffic.
In the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain had agreed to allow the United States to use UK bases for “defensive” strikes targeting Iranian missiles and launchers. However, he stressed: “We were not involved in the initial strikes on Iran and we will not join offensive action now.”
Britain, France and Germany also signalled they were prepared to enable “necessary and proportionate defensive action” to counter Iranian missile and drone capabilities. As diplomatic calls for de-escalation continue, military preparations across Europe suggest growing concern over a protracted conflict.
A rapidly widening conflict in the Middle East has intensified after joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran killed the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering retaliation across the region and raising fears of a prolonged war.
The crisis began with a large-scale operation by the United States and Israel targeting Iranian military and Revolutionary Guard facilities. Iranian state media confirmed that Khamenei was killed in the initial strikes, alongside several senior officials. Washington said it had hit hundreds of targets, including air defence systems, missile launch sites and command centres, while US Central Command later announced that the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been destroyed.
In response, Iran launched missiles and drones at Israel and US-linked sites across the Gulf. At least 11 people were reported killed in Israel, including nine in a strike on a synagogue in Beit Shemesh, while seven were injured in the Jerusalem area. Three US service members were killed during operations, with President Donald Trump warning that further casualties were likely.
The violence has spread beyond Iran and Israel. Hezbollah fired projectiles into Israel from Lebanon, prompting Israeli air strikes on targets in Beirut. Gulf states condemned Iranian attacks on their territory, with the United Arab Emirates summoning Iran’s ambassador and warning of serious consequences. Oman and other regional states reported drone strikes, and shipping companies suspended transit through the Strait of Hormuz after security threats to vessels.
