Shoppers have been urged to stop using a vacuum cleaner after it could cause serious burns and property damage.

The Mistral vacuum cleaner, sold at Bunnings in Australia, has been recalled due to concerns it could overheat and catch fire.

The product has been sold in the homeware and DIY superstore over the past year.

The nationwide recall applies to the Mistral Barrel Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaner 1800W (BVC160) and the 2400W model (BVC165), sold at the Bunnings stores across Australia between July 2025 and May 2026.

The recall notice states that a manufacturing defect could cause the hoover to overheat when being used to clean.

It is also warned that serious burns and property damage could occur should the motor overheat.

The recall comes as several incidents have already been reported, including unusual noises, unpleasant smells, and smoke coming from the product.

Shoppers who have purchased the household good have been told to stop using it immediately and ensure it is not connected to a power source.

Customers are able to return the product to Bunnings to receive a full refund.

Elsewhere, other household items are also being recalled due to safety concerns.

Swedish brand IKEA have recall common kitchen item, IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic press in black due to a production error.

IKEA are also recalling the IKEA 365+ HJÄLTE stirring spatula.

People who have purchased the items have been advised to "immediately stop using it and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund".

Proof of purchase is not required in order to get a refund.
