In an interview with FRANCE 24 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Kenyan President William Ruto warned that “unless the UN is reformed, its own survival is at stake" and called for changes to the UN Security Council and international financial architecture. On Haiti, he said Kenya had “achieved some landmark achievements” and “stabilised the place” but confirmed that Kenyan troops would return home.

Speaking to FRANCE 24, Ruto also reacted to US President Donald Trump calling climate change “the greatest con job ever perpetrated” by saying that “science and facts are very stubborn”. Ruto argued that “climate change is real” and “climate action is absolutely necessary”, adding: “You cannot reverse the trends that are going on. Floods are ravaging continents, wildfires, drought and everything in between.”

Asked about Sudan's civil war, Ruto dismissed accusations that Kenya was siding with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are allegedly funded by the UAE. He insisted that “the two [warring] generals are cut from the same cloth”. The Kenyan president also said there was “no military solution in this conflict” and that “there is only a resolution through dialogue”.
