Ukraine has reported a number of apartment and vehicle fires after Russia launched a barrage of 165 drones overnight. Volodymyr Zelensky said children had been injured in the attacks but were luckily able to receive medical attention. The Ukrainian president noted a domitory fire in Cherkasy, as well as strikes in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv using Shahed drones from Iran. This morning saw further attacks on the Donetsk and Sumy regions.

He wrote on X: "The Russians are calling for a ceasefire on May 9 while striking Ukraine every single day. This is top-level cynicism: just this week alone, Russia has used over 1,180 attack drones, 1,360 guided aerial bombs, and 10 missiles of various types against Ukraine. A real ceasefire is necessary. Ukraine is ready for silence to begin on any day – but for no less than a month, to bring the war to an end. If there’s silence, it must be every day. If there’s a ceasefire – then not for their holidays, but for every day. I thank all our partners who continue to support Ukraine and put pressure on Russia."
