Three people, including a young girl and an elderly woman, have been killed in a Russian drone strike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. The attack, which took place late on April 16, also left 30 others injured, including five children. It follows a missile strike on Sumy at the weekend which killed 34 people.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Serhii Lysak confirmed the fatalities and warned that homes, schools, cultural institutions, and vehicles were among the targets. Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said injured residents were being treated in hospitals across the city, with one victim in critical condition. A Shahed drone came close to striking the city hall, Filatov added in a message posted to Telegram.

Governor Lysak said fires broke out across Dnipro following the strike, with emergency services working through the night to extinguish them.
Residential buildings sustained severe damage, with windows shattered and roofs torn apart by the blasts.
Among the injured children were a nine-month-old baby, a six-year-old, and an 11-year-old.
Local officials say psychological support is being offered to survivors, many of whom were asleep when the drones hit.
Kyiv has renewed calls for additional Western air defence systems to protect civilians from further attacks.

The strike follows another Russian attack on Sumy on April 13 which killed at least 34 and injured more than 100.
European leaders condemned that earlier attack, which occurred on Palm Sunday, calling it “heartbreaking.”
Ukraine says the latest wave of strikes shows Russia has no intention of halting its offensive.
