Ukraine reports 141 clashes in one day as Russian drone and bomb attacks escalate
Ukraine’s armed forces faced 141 separate clashes with Russian troops in the past 24 hours as Moscow intensified its aerial assault, launching 56 air strikes and dropping 130 guided bombs, the General Staff said on Thursday.
The enemy also fired nearly 6,000 times, including 164 attacks using multiple rocket launchers, and deployed around 3,000 kamikaze drones. Air strikes targeted at least 18 settlements across five regions, from Sumy in the north to Zaporizhia in the south. Kyiv’s military responded with precision strikes on 14 concentrations of Russian troops and equipment, four command posts and an ammunition depot.
Heavy fighting continued in multiple directions, with the fiercest battles reported near Pokrovsk, where Ukrainian forces repelled 44 assaults. Ukrainian troops also held their lines in Kharkiv, Kupyansk, Liman, and Toretsk, successfully stopping dozens of enemy attacks in settlements including Vovchansk, Torske, Chasovy Yar and Vilny Pole.
Meanwhile, the General Staff confirmed that no significant enemy advances had taken place in the Dnieper, Volyn or Polissya sectors. The Defense Forces said their troops inflicted “significant losses” on the invaders and continue to disrupt Russian logistics and operations behind the front line.
Vladimir Putin is expanding his nuclear arsenal not only to bolster his flagging fortunes on the battlefield but also as a reaction to worldwide fears over the potential outbreak of WW3.
The Russian President has now opted for the return of 'nuclear-tipped' air-to-air missiles, a weapon eerily similar to those used by the Soviet Union during tensions with the US.
This is according to the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and its unclassified Worldwide Threat Assessment for 2025. presented to the Armed Services Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations United States House of Representatives, and is also available to view online.
WW3 fears stoked as Germany bolsters NATO eastern flank with Baltic Brigade
Germany has deployed a new brigade to bolster NATO's eastern flank in a historic move to deter Russia. The stationing of the troops in Lithuania marks the first time a German brigade is being based outside Germany on a long-term basis since World War 2.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who wants Germany to have the strongest army in Europe, said “the security of our Baltic allies is also our security” amid continued fears over the threat posed by Russia. A ceremony was held in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius to mark the occasion, with dozens of military helicopters flying over the city's central cathedral square. Mr Merz told those in attendance that “protecting Vilnius is protecting Berlin".
Russian Telegram channels have reported a strike on the Energiya plant in Lipetsk, a facility known for producing batteries used in drones, aircraft and naval systems, according to former Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko.
Local authorities confirmed a fire broke out at the site, prompting the evacuation of staff.
The extent of the damage remains unclear, but the plant is considered a critical part of Russia's military-industrial supply chain.
The incident follows a series of recent Ukrainian drone attacks deep inside Russian territory. Mr Gerashchenko highlighted the strike as part of Ukraine's effort to "undermine Russia's military capabilities from within."
