The last time the monarch read the Speech from the Throne at the opening of the Canadian Parliament was Queen Elizabeth II, in 1977. Before that, you have to go back 20 years, to Queen Elizabeth again, in 1957. Normally, the Throne speech is read by the monarch’s representative in Canada, the Governor General.
