He first tried in 2021, and his supporters took to the streets in celebration despite clashes with security forces.

Yahaya Sharif Aminu was convicted of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed in 2020 by an Islamic religious court in Kano State. This high-profile case has highlighted the clash between religious law and constitutional rights in Nigeria. Sharif Aminu's lawyers are hoping for a ruling that limits the scope of sharia law.
