Ras Al Khaimah kicked off 2026 with a bang, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest aerial phoenix formed by drones. The night sky lit up with a breathtaking combination of drones and fireworks, drawing thousands of residents and visitors to witness a New Year’s celebration like no other.
The centrepiece of the 15-minute New Year’s Eve show was an unprecedented drone performance above the emirate’s waterfront. 2,300 drones formed a series of animated patterns, with a phoenix taking centre stage, a symbol of renewal and rebirth. Among them, 1,000 pyro drones illuminated the phoenix’s wings, creating a lifelike flame effect that made it appear to soar across the night sky.Another striking formation, titled “The Welcome,” depicted a human figure rising from the sea with open arms, representing Ras Al Khaimah’s spirit of hospitality and openness.
The precision and artistry of the drone sequences left spectators mesmerized, blending technology and storytelling in a spectacular visual narrative.
Fireworks light up the coastline
As midnight approached, the drone display gave way to a synchronized fireworks countdown. The show stretched along six kilometres of coastline, from Marjan Island to Al Hamra, with hundreds of fireworks launched in choreographed waves. The spectacle lit up the shoreline with vivid colors, patterns, and sound, leaving a lasting impression on the crowd.
Earlier in the evening, families enjoyed an additional fireworks show at Corniche Al Qawasim, adding another layer of excitement to the night’s celebrations.
A celebration for the community
Thousands of residents and visitors gathered at beachfront resorts and the New Year’s Eve Festival to enjoy live stage performances and entertainment. The event was designed to create a shared experience, bringing people together and fostering a sense of community during a moment of celebration and reflection.
Reflection and optimism for 2026
Phillipa Harrison, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, highlighted the broader purpose of the event.“New Year’s Eve in Ras Al Khaimah is about bringing people together. With this year’s show, we wanted to create a celebration that could be shared by our entire community and everyone visiting Ras Al Khaimah at this special time,” she said. Harrison added that the event was also an opportunity to reflect on the emirate’s progress and welcome the year ahead with optimism and hope.
