A Trump voter issued an emotional apology for supporting the President, adding that he is now a "rotten man."The former Trump backer called in to an American television phone-in to condemn the President's now deleted post, which displayed Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.
In the now-deleted post about voting machine anomalies, the shocking clip shows the AI-generated figures dancing in a jungle to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".The video has sparked widespread backlash from around the world, with California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office describing it as “disgusting behaviour by the President”. He called on "every single Republican” to “denounce this".
He added: “I was sucked into the stupidity of creating jobs - there are no more jobs in New Mexico, things are worse than they were before.”
Meanwhile, Ben Rhodes, who worked in the Obama administration, added: "Let it haunt Trump and his racist followers that future Americans will embrace the Obamas as beloved figures while studying him as a stain on our history."
However the White House has attempted to defend the videodescribing it as an "internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King."
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has called for a stop to the "fake outrage".
Three-time Trump voter:
I’m a registered Republican. I voted for Trump, but I really want to apologize. I'm looking at this awful picture of the Obamas. What an embarrassment to our country. All this man does is tell lies. He is not worthy of the presidency. He takes bribes… pic.twitter.com/PaCrTLZWyQ
One Republican who had voted for Trump in the past three elections took Newsom’s words and wanted to apologise on the president’s behalf.
Phoning in to C-SPAN the man said: “I’m a registered Republican. I voted for the president, I supported him, but I really want to apologise.
