Donald Trump is pulling the US out of UNESCO, a White House official has revealed. In February, the US President ordered a 90-day review into his country's membership in the agency, which is part of the United Nations and specialised on promoting international cooperation in education, arts, science and culture.

Following the review, White House officials took issue with the organisation's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies as well as its alleged pro-Palestine and pro-China bias, according to a White House official. Anna Kelly told the New York Post: "President Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO – which supports woke, divisive cultural and social causes that are totally out-of-step with the commonsense policies that Americans voted for in November."

She added: “This President will always put America First and ensure our country’s membership in all international organizations aligns with our national interests.”

Trump previously pulled the US out of UNESCO, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO), and the UN Human Rights Council in his first term.

He also shocked allies by withdrawing the US from the Iran nuclear deal and a global climate change accord.

These moves were reversed by President Joe Biden who denied the Republican a second consecutive term in the White House and took power in 2021.

UNESCO, which stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is perhaps best known for designating celebrated historical sites with "outstanding universal value" as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a title prized by countries the world over.
