Donald Trump revealed his surprise at Joe Biden's cancer diagnosis, suggesting that the public could have been "notified a long time ago". The former US president was diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. His successor responded to the "very sad" news when asked about it by a reporter at the White House. He said: "I think it's very sad, actually. I'm surprised the public wasn't notified a long time ago because to get to stage nine, that's a long time."

Mr Trump also claimed without providing any evidence that there are "things going on that the public wasn't informed of" in regards to Mr Biden's diagnosis, which he said was "very dangerous". He added: "The other thing you have to say is why did it take so long? I mean... this takes a long time, can take years to get to this level of danger.

Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support. pic.twitter.com/oSS1vGIiwU

"I think people should try and find out what happened... Maybe it was the same doctor and somebody is not telling the facts.. That's a big problem."

The Republican added that he was "proud to announce I aced" a "very complete" physical exam, which included "cognitive tests".

He also offered his and his wife Melania's support on his social media platform, Truth Social. He said they were "saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis".

He added: "We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family. We wish Joe a fast and successful recovery."

Mr Biden's office said doctors had discovered the cancer on Friday, after the former president had undergone tests.

The statment read: "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.

"On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management."
