Trump slaps tariffs on Africa: 50% on Lestho, 30% on South Africa

US President Donald Trump has called tariffs the "most beautiful word" in the dictionary. Some African countries might disagree. Lesotho was slapped with the White House's highest tariff rates in a list released on Wednesday, with a 50% import tax. Other countries hit include Madagascar with 47% and South Africa with 30%. South Africa's trade minister says they're now actively working on new opportunities.

Also, the US announced the end of the programme review of the United States Agency for International Development last month. 83% of aid has been cut and many African countries will be affected. We speak to Dr Allen Maina, Chief of Public Health at UNHCR, about the impact of these cuts on refugees.

And as France's influence in West Africa wanes, its troops are due to leave Senegal completely by the end of 2025, as requested by President Diomaye Faye. But Senegalese workers employed on French military bases in the country are worried.  Despite measures offered by the French army, many remain uncertain about their future. Our correspondent Caitlin Kelly has more from Senegal.
