US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced he would increase tariffs on Brazilian imports from 10 to 50 percent citing the trial of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for his alleged coup attempt following his loss in the 2022 Brazilian presidential elections. The Trump administration called Bolsonaro's prosecution "politically motivated" and imposed personal sanctions on the Supreme Court judge overseeing the former president's trial.
