Donald Trump has made a veiled threat to Vladimir Putin, after the Kremlin threw his peace initiative into disarray with a new set of hardline demands. The US President has spearheaded diplomatic efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end, risking much political capital along the way.

Following the summit in Alaska, Trump and the White House believed they had made progress in negotiations. A meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders followed at the White House, where plans for a security guarantee for Ukraine were discussed. The UK, France and Estonia are willing to send their troops to Ukraine following a ceasefire, while the US hinted it could provide air support.

However, Moscow rejected the idea of Western troops being deployed to Ukraine, insisting Russia must have a veto over any postwar support for the country.

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said European proposals to deploy troops in Ukraine would amount to “foreign intervention” and was totally unacceptable.

Trump hit back at the Kremlin's attempts to torpedo peace talks with a stinging post to his Truth Social website.

The US President castigated his predecessor Joe Biden for holding back Ukraine and preventing its forces from taking the war directly to Russia, hinting things could be about to change.

“It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader's country," he said. "It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defence, but is not allowed to play offence. There is no chance of winning! It is like that with Ukraine and Russia.

"Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out?" Then he intriguingly added: "Interesting times ahead!!!”

His post coincided with news that Ukraine has completed successful teats to its huge new missile the Flamingo and plans to ramp up production of the deadly weapon.

The Flamingo is a big beast, boasting a six metre wingspan and weighs six tonnes. It also packs a mighty punch in the form of a one tonne warhead.

The missile has a reported range of 3,000km and could strike anywhere in central Russia – easily reaching Moscow or St Petersburg, and even some distance into Siberia.

Up until now, residents in Russia's big cities have been spared the horror of constant missile and drone attacks reigning down on their homes, spreading terror and death.

With the launch of the Flamingo, that could all be about to change, and Russians could be set to get a dose of their own bitter medicine.
