Tim Merlier edged out Jonathan Milan to win Stage 3 of the Tour de France, a stage plagued by multiple crashes. Stage 1 winner Jasper Philipsen was forced to abandon the race due to a displaced collarbone fracture and two broken ribs.

At Wimbledon, a devastated Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire due to injury while leading world No. 1 Jannik Sinner by two sets. The 34-year-old Bulgarian left the court in tears as Sinner advanced to the quarter-finals.

In the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek cruised past Clara Tauson to reach her second Wimbledon quarter-final.

In football, world champions Spain booked their ticket to the Women’s Euro with a 6-2 win over Belgium.
